Finding the Right Dental Practice for You

Buying a dental practice is most likely going to be the most costly financial transaction of your entire dentistry career. We often get asked by potential buyers, “How can I find the right dental practice to buy?” Sadly, the answer is not cut and dry; finding the perfect practice takes time, luck and lots of dedication. Luckily for you, at Elevate Dental Partners, we are experts in finding, selling and buying dental practices. Wondering what steps you can take to find the perfect dental practice for you? Here are some of the common ways we’ve seen buyers find the right practice for them:

Contact a Dental Practice Broker

When it comes to buying and selling dental practices, working with a broker is still one of the most common avenues. This typically involves looking through listings (often on the broker’s website) and then contacting the broker. Extensive research should be done on the potential practice (hopefully with help from an attorney and/or financial team). Even if a broker doesn’t have listings for the perfect practice at the moment, it is always good to be put on their mailing list so any future listings can be sent to you to look over.

Get in Touch with Dental Equipment/Supply Reps

Dental equipment and supply sales representatives can be another great resource for learning about practices in your target area. They spend the majority of their lives visiting dental practices, pitching new equipment and supplies. If possible, find and contact representatives in the area you have in mind and see if you can set up an appointment to discuss your goals of a future practice, and to see if they know of any practices that may be going up for sale.

Look Through Dental Society Websites

Certain state and city dental associations have classified sections where practices can be advertised. If you have an area in mind for your dental practice, look around for any state or local dental associations. A lot of dentists are interested in selling their practice without involving a broker.

Canvas Your Ideal Location

This method probably requires the most effort and dedication, but canvassing the area yourself will allow you to get a feel for the area, see how much traffic exists and even talk to local dentists. These local dentists may be in the market to sell their practice or may know of another doctor in the area who is considering selling theirs.
